Unlike many media producers, I don't focus on just one or two kinds of media. As such, I can't just put up a reel or keep my portfolio limited to one or two types of media. Instead, this page is divided into four groups, showing work I have done in Audio Production, Graphic Design, Video Production, and Web Design.
"J.R. In The Morning" is a short radio show created as part of a class assignment. We were tasked with putting together an interview in the style of a radio show. For our interview, my partner and I opted to discuss the meteor that exploded over Russia in 2012. We wrote a brief script involving a morning radio show host discussing the meteor with an expert, and performed the parts ourselves.
Software Used: Reaper
"Soundscape" was a particularly challenging class assignment. We were tasked with creating a soundscape, or a story told entirely through sound, with no dialogue, and it could only be one minute long. This necessitated simplicity in the narrative, and so I constructed a simple story that is up to the listener to decipher.

Every year, the English and Comparitive Literature Department at the University of Cincinnati's McMicken College gives out the Boyce Award to one teacher, nominated by students, who has displayed excellence. As part of the process, the college enlists students to help create advertisemants for the award, throught volunteers and through class assignments. I created this poster and an assignment for a class in desktop publishing techniques. It was an informative exercise in adhering to branding policies because all advertisements created for the University of Cincinnati must follow strict rules and use existing assets.

The Irish Heritage Center in Cincinnati, Ohio holds an annual St. Patrick's Day festival, featuring traditional Irish music, food, and drink. In 2012, they asked students at the University of Cincinnati to create posters to advertise that year's festival. My professor agreed, and it was designed as a contest, with two posters being selected to help advertise that year's festival. This poster, created with a partner, was one of the two chosen, and was put up around the city.

During my 2015 internship with Jake Sweeney Automotive, one of my most frequent assignments was to create banner ads. These ads would go on the various company websites, as well as the monthly newsletter, in order to advertise upcoming promitions and availability of new vehicles. In creating these ads, multiple branding policies had to be taken into consideration; the company had their own policies, but several of the auto manufacturers we worked with had their own policies that had to be reflected in the finished product.

"A Few Thoughts On Music" is a short film I created on the importance of music. As a musician who comes from a family of musicians, I have always felt that music is far more important to both individuals and society than most people realize. When I was given a class assignment to make a short documentary film, I knew that music should be my subject.
Software Used: Final Cut Pro 7
"Steamed" is a short film I edited as part of a multi-class assignment in College. We were put into groups, and each group had to create a short film from scratch. As my class was focused on editing, we worked primarily in the post-production aspect of the film. This ended up being quite challenging because we had multiple technical issues pop up during the editing process, and due to time constraints, we couldn't do reshoots. However, by using Avid's wide array of tools, we were able to create a film that followed the script and concept almost perfectly.
Software Used: Avid Media Composer
"Don't Text and Drive" is a public service announcement about the dangers of texting while driving. A colleague of mine came up with the concept, and we collaborated to bring it to fruition. The three actors are meant to be ghosts, expressing regret over their mistakes. In order to achive this, we created a unique look to suggest this using a combination of green screen and careful color correction.
Software Used: Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition
In the fall of 2019, I volunteered to help with a local political campaign. While I had initially just given aid where I could, when the discussion of producing video advertisements for the campaign came up, I jumped at the opportunity. Over the course of a few weeks, I produced a total of four ads for the campaign; two were of Dr. Rasmussen discussing her stance on the issues, and two were of citizens explaining why they were voting for her over other candidates. The videos were very well received by the community, and the campaign was ultimately successful.

In the fall of 2021, I volunteered to help on the campaigns of several candidates for seats on the local school board. One of the candidates I worked with was Andrea Granieri, who has a great deal of experience in working with students of various backgrounds. I produced a series of short videos explaining why she was running and her position on various issues important to the community.

In the fall of 2021, I volunteered to work with candidates for several local races, including the township Board of Trustees. One of the candidates I worked with was Mary Gaertner, who works as the Executive Director of a local non-profit organization. I produced a series of short videos explaining her background, her leadership qualities, and her positions on some of the issues important to the community.

In the fall of 2021, I volunteered to work with candidates for several local races, including the local board of education. One of the candidates I worked with was Dr. Wendy Strickler Biederman, a child psychologist who has actually worked in the district for a number of years. I produced two videos for her campaign, showcasing her background and her stance on certain issues important to the community. Additionally, I designed, built, and moderated a website for her campaign, which can be found in the Websites section.

First created in 2005, Dean's World was my first foray into web design. I wanted a platform to share some of my creative work, such as music, poetry, and art, so I created a rudimentary site using basic HTML and CSS. Now in its second incarnation, Dean's World continues to be hand-coded and to serve as a platform for many of my creative endeavors.
Software Used: Notepad++, Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator
"Looking For Your Roots" grew out of a class assignment to create and run a blog. I had previously experimented with personal blogs, but this marked my first foray into professional blogging. As the name suggests, this blog discusses genealogy, which has been my hobby for many years. Articles range from reviews of products to research tips, and several focus on preservation and digitization of certain kinds of heirlooms.
Software Used: Wordpress, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop
"Moms of Mantua" is a neighborhood group for mothers in the Mantua neighborhood of Fairfax, Virginia. Dedicated to helping all the moms of the neighborhood, the Moms of Mantua compiles information of local interest for easy access. This includes, but isn't limited to: school contact and event information, babysitters, and contact information for local businesses and utilities. They also hold numerous events each year for members to network and have fun; some are "Just For Moms", some are for both parents, and some are for the entire family. I have been assisting them in construction of a website so that all of this information is more easily accessible, and so that prospective members can sign up.

Cundiff Home Enhancements is a remodeling company based in the Greater Cincinnati area. Since 2011, they have helped remodel kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and decks in both Ohio and Kentucky. In 2020, they decided to create a website for the company (until this point, advertising was done via word of mouth and Facebook). The initial design work was done by another party, and I took over the project after the basic framework had been completed. My primary task was to clean up the work already done and to populate the site with content, including a showcase of prior projects the company has worked on.

In 2021, I worked with several campaigns for seats on a local school board. One of the candidates I worked with was Rachel Baker, a pediatric nurse and researcher, and court-appointed child advocate. I assisted her campaign by designing, building, and moderating a website, as well as editing a series of campaign videos.
